Chilli crab is a Singapore national dish that many locals and foreigners love. Although the crab is what we crave, the sauce is usually the main highlight of the dish, with steamed or deep fried buns (mantou) complementing it delectably.

With their sixth outlet opened at Jewel Changi Airport this April, JUMBO Seafood has gained much love from Singaporeans since the opening of their first branch at East Coast Seafood Centre in 1987. Expanding its business all over Asia, including China, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand, JUMBO is famous for using only the freshest seafood ingredients to cook its signature dish. The gravy has a strong tomato taste that’s slightly spicy and it is thickened with beaten eggs. Simply perfect!

Initially known as Melben Seafood, this restaurant was rebranded as Kelly Jie Seafood in 2017. Although the Claypot Crab Vermicelli Soup is their most renowned signature dish, Kelly Jie Seafood surprisingly serves pretty good chilli crab too. The gravy is thick and sweet, but with a mild aroma. The dish is not too spicy, perfect for those who can’t handle spicy food.

Located at Casuarina Road, Ban Leong Wah Hoe imports their seafood daily to ensure the freshest ingredients are served to their customers. The crabs are enormous and meaty, and are stewed in a sweet & spicy sauce thickened with beaten eggs. Their chilli sauce has a mild taste, but it is well balanced and does not overpower the natural flavour of the crab. Not to forget the complementary toasty-outside yet chewy-inside mantou a perfect match! Do note that you might need to queue for 30 minutes during peak hours, especially on weekends, but it’s worth the wait!
